About the role
Engineer – 30m Sailing Yacht – Five-Month Refit
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Engineer to join a 30m sailing yacht for an extensive five-month refit.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the yacht’s technical programme, working closely with the Captain, management team, shipyard and external contractors.
This could be a temporary position or a permanent position for an engineer who likes working as a Mate/engineer during the season

Skills and Experience Required:
•
Proven engineering experience aboard similar-sized sailing yachts.
•
Previous refit or shipyard experience is essential.
•
Strong knowledge of MTU engines and planned maintenance.
•
Experience with Twin Disc gearboxes, shaft lines and variable-pitch propeller systems.
•
Good understanding of hydraulic systems, including furlers, rams, backstay tensioners and boom-vang systems.
•
Competence in marine electrical systems, batteries, pumps, generators, plumbing and onboard technical services.
•
Experience with machinery overhauls, new installations and technical upgrades.
•
Ability to supervise contractors, review quotations and monitor the quality and progress of work.
•
Confident troubleshooting technical faults and finding practical, cost-effective solutions.
•
Experience with aluminium yachts would be advantageous.
•
Strong record-keeping skills, including budgets, inventories, service records, manuals and planned-maintenance documentation.
•
Organised, proactive and able to work independently.
•
Strong communication and contractor-management skills.
Qualifications Required:
•
Minimum SV engineer or equivalent
•
STCW – fully updated.
•
Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate.
