Engine Cadet - NCL

All candidates must complete an on-line application to be considered. The Engine Cadet is to undertakes onboard training to gain practical experience as part of an education program. Work in an organized rotation through the various technical departments; engine room watch standing; day worker assignments; electrical; and refrigeration under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, Staff Chief and 1st Engineer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Able to follow instructions provided by the First Engineer. Cadet is a Future Engineering Officer in training and should be using their time onboard to learn and prepare for a permanent assignment. Obligatory work performance and assistance with other team members starting from the Third Engineer; and rotating to each 2nd Engineer including watch standing in the ECR. Able to assist in the maintenance and repair of equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position. QUALIFICATIONS Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required. Intermediate to Advanced skills in typing and computer software skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Fidelio, AS400, Micros) are required. The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines. EDUCATION Candidate must be actively enrolled in a Maritime Education Curriculum from an accredited maritime educational institution. Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.
